The Otter is a work horse in the Canadian float aviation industry. This one rests comfortably at a dock in Sioux Narrows, taking in the sunset hour after spreading its wings over Lake of the Woods all day. The play of light on the float plane and in the water was captivating for me. It's not the first time I've painted a float plane, as they're so frequently flying over...but this one felt pretty special to me, lit up by the vibrant sunset colours, and I was compelled to capture the essence of this moment in paint.
A big thanks to the photographer/pilot Nick Antle, and for his permission to use it, to flesh out the details and inspire this painting.
