Lake of the Woods, Northwestern Ontario
This print is a smaller sized reproduction of the original painting "Whitefish Bay" (sold) by Melissa Jean.
Inspiration: There are three very distinctly different parts of the Lake of the Woods, each with their own advantages and beauty.
Whitefish Bay, in the Southeast part of the Lake is one of the deepest parts of the lake. The water is clear and beautiful, the islands sport beaches, carved Canadian Shield and a variety of rocks and pine trees. There is just so much to offer in that area, including the feeling of being alone with your thoughts in a pristine part of the lake.
I was drawn to these three islands at sunset. They held the same vibe of calm, tranquility and peace that I felt when looking at Walter J’s painting "Whitefish Bay" created approximately 100 years ago. (I was on the lookout for places that he painted at as part of a fun summer hobby) I went back many times to the area over the years, photographing them from all angles. I finally decided on a photo I took of them lined up one in front of the other. The rock in the front left is similar in shape to Walter J’s "Whitefish Bay", and because of where the sun sets out of frame, the colours in the painting are cooler. Out of all of the spots in that area, this is most likely to be the one that inspired him, although we will never know for sure, and that’s the fun part.

"Whitefish Bay" Canvas Art Print
This picture reminds me of kayaking in Whitfish Bay. It has an overwhelming calming effect from that experience. I have it facing my bed so I can enjoy the calmness before I fall asleep and when I awake. ❤️
